To remove stresses from the metals, stress relieving isused. By heating the metals to a certain temperature and then allowsthem to cool in still air; this helps with the removal of remainingstresses from the metal. Shot peening is a process by which smallmetallic particles are used to impact the surface of the materialbeing used in a part’s construction and creates compressive residualstresses on that surface, which can then longer withstand crackingand breaking, thereby increasing the lifespan of the part.Furthermore, magnafluxing is running a magnetic particle filled fluidover and through metal parts. The magnetic particles attach to anyflaws or fissures in the material and magnifies them so that it canbe identified and removed from use if necessary.
